January 3rd – Wednesday

This world is just full of terrific people. Shawn (owner with partner Mike) of Destiny Yacht Charters and Riverview Marina saw Achievement from across the river last night, and as most do discussed and/or wondered what she is. Being one of a kind and having such unique lines – she does attract attention where ever she goes. He calls Capt. Bob on the radio to ask that question. They got to talking when Bob asked if he knew where we could tie up to take on supplies. He graciously offered us accommodations at his marina, snuggled up to Destiny a 110 ft. yacht they run their business from. (Of course Lionel and I had a warm spot immediately, after all her name was “Destiny”)

Shawn helped us get secure then came on board for the “tour”. Again – another man’s heart was captured. He loaned us a car (unfortunately only a two seater – so I never did get to see Cincinnati), gave us water to load Achievement’s thirsty tanks and even offered to get a fuel truck if we needed. You just don’t meet people like that every day. We have been so very fortunate to meet up with two river angels as Bob calls them.

Pat and Victor set off to run errands and get supplies, Lionel, Bob and I stayed on board, filled water tanks, tinkered and did laundry. (Yes! that 30 year old washer and dryer worked just fine)

That evening when Destiny returned from her dinner party cruise, Shawn and Mike invited us on board. Oh my gosh! What an elegant lady she is. From her several decks, to her dining room, chandeliers, bar, tables, plush leather couches, full galley, Capt. quarters with mirrored his/her closets, walk around berth and a head with a full size Jacuzzi tub and separate shower. The wheel house is plush – sports a couch and table so visitors can sit comfortably. Now that’s the way to travel!

Their business is Party Cruises; usually weddings, rehearsal dinners, company parties and various other celebrations. All the customer need do is call them – tell them how many and they do the rest. The customer just needs to step on board with their guests and all is done for them. They are wined and dined while cruising this beautiful section of the Ohio River. They must do an excellent job. Here it is January (everything here hibernates for the winter) and they have two parties booked for this month. If you‘d like to check out the boat go to http://www.destinyyachtcharters.com/

Our gracious hosts offered us cocktails, wonderful conversation, introduced us to other friends and family and then sent us home with delicious hors d'oeuvres and desserts. Mike and his wife Michelle, Robert and Karen (on board a 30 S-2 Sailboat) and Jeanne who works with them came on board Achievement for a tour. In this case even the women were taken with her. Sure makes you proud.

Our crew is beginning to stir – Capt. wants an early start today. We should be leaving Ohio behind soon and saying hello to Indiana. Today should be cold, but clear and sunny. Hooray – I love traveling when the sun is out.

PS ( I did get it wrong – it’s the Cincinnati Reds Baseball Team – but I guess you knew that)

Marianne, your sunsets are gorgeous!! The Destiny looks like it would be a great ship to take on a long trip, imagine living in that luxury for days on end. But I'm sure Captain Bob will bring Achievement to that level in no time. Keep on blogging!
